So I mentioned the idea of a Don Starks video and I think its finally going to make it! Everybody here is really busy so the video is getting some of the last minute tweaks and then it should be up. I’ve seen some parts of it and it looks really funny. Don was pretty serious during the interview so they put some clips in it of him goofing around to even it all out.
Be looking out for that Friday December 5th!
I’ve got VIDEOS!!! Let me set this first one up for you though… Youtube has teamed up with US News for a contest called “Why My School Rocks”. You post a video that shows why your school rocks, and we thought it was a perfect opportunity for Ball State to showcase My Name Is Jerry! Please check it out, the finalists are chosen based on the number of views they receive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MCNPzYxHo0&watch_response
The other video I have is the Immersive Learning piece. It has lots of great interviews about how students contributed to this film and how amazing of an opportunity this was for students to learn their trade and put their education to work.
Don’t forget to vote for Doug for the Spike TV awards!
I noticed we don’t have a lot of stuff up about Don Stark yet so I’m going to see what I can find of him and get it to you guys for the next one.
Sarah :]
I just got an e-mail from Doug Jones and he has been nominated for his first televised award show! The Spike TV Scream Awards are on Tuesday Oct. 21and Doug is nominated for Best Supporting Performance as Abe Sapien in “Hellboy 2: The Golden Army”. You can go to http://www.spike.com/event/scream/page/vote/category/28699 to vote for Doug so get out there and VOTE! He’s up against some heavy hitters so lets spread the word! Thanks :]
In other news… I got to go the editing suite last week! Its was awesome! Jess Carfield has been working so hard on making sure each scene is perfect. He and the producer sit down and look at every scene and ask is this good? is this dragging on? is this exciting? whats the main purpose of this scene, does it serve that purpose? Man, thats a lot of work!
I got to check out a few scenes from the movie and one I think you’d all appreciate the most would be the one with Slim(Levi Holloway), Jordan (Katlyn Carlson), and Jerry (Doug Jones).
Here is a little set up for the scene: Slim and Jordan have just recently broken up. Jerry sort of just popped up out of no where while they were breaking up. Slim thinks that Jordan and Jerry are becoming a little more than just friends. Slim has been trying to win Jordan back by showing up at parties and at her house and now he has shown up at her work, a bar.
Slim is up on the microphone trying to win Jordan back by singing ridiculous tunes for everyone to hear. Jordan is totally embarrassed and she lets Slim know. You can tell by the look on Jerry’s face that he isn’t sure what to do with him self right now because right before Slim started singing he and Jordan had shared a “moment”. So the scene is a total mess but the film, the shooting, the location, and the acting are all excellent!
Jess said the the edited film is going to be moving on to sound in a week or so and it will probably spend a few months there. I CANT WAIT!!! This is going to be an awesome movie and as Jess put in “an ace is the pocket for Ball State”.
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the video I promised, I just thought this information was a bit more exciting. The video will be coming later this week and there might even be 2!
:] Sarah
Hey guys! This blog is a big responsibility(but I love it!)! These editors are keeping the film’s information under lock and key so I’m going to have to start working a lot harder to get you good, solid material. Today I’m going to meet with the editor and get sneak peak to see what he has been working on. Muahaha!
If there’s anything you want more of, let me know and I’ll hunt it down for you. There is plenty of information out there I just need to get my hands on it. This week pictures, and next time I’ll tell you what happened with the editor!
There are more on our flickr site…
I’m going to try and get a video for you guys next week too so be on the look out for that!
Sarah :]
Hello Jerry Fans! I’m Sarah, a senior at Ball State University, taking over as the Official Blogger for Layne. I’m really excited about getting the opportunity to do this. My plan is to keep everyone up-to-date and entertained about what’s going on here at the Mitchell place during post production. We still have lots of great video clips and pictures in the works to share with everyone.
While filming this summer the set had the pleasure of Charlie Cardinal, Ball State’s mascot, coming to visit. Doug Jones was the Charlie Cardinal for basketball his junior and senior year at BSU. Here is a little story he shared with the Alumni Magazine…
I always used to mess with the guys who swept the court at half time, and one time I was waiting for a sweeper in the middle of the court with a sort of “bring it on” attitude. As he got to me, I hopped over the wide mop base, but the pole ran right into my private region, if you know what I mean. The crowd went kooky with laughter.
And here is a clip of Charlie running around the set. I too, didn’t get to experience this but it looks like great fun!
More to come later, I look forward to blogging again soon!
Geez, I apologize for the long periods of silence between blogs. That’ll be remedied here with a changing of the guard, so to speak, which will be happening very soon, but I’ll get to that in a second.
First off, MNIJ was at the 2008 Horrorhound Convention at the Marriott Indianapolis East, which was held August 29-31. We were slightly (ahem) out of place as a dramedy at a slasher film fest, but since Dougie was there signing autographs’n’such, Horrorhound was kind enough to let us have a free booth!
I could only be at the convention on Saturday the 30th, but our marketing team video dude Aaron was our hero and worked our booth the whole weekend. You can hear him talking to the Third Shift Junkies about MNIJ on their podcast at http://thirdshiftjunkies.mypodcast.com/200808_archive.html. (Aaron doesn’t speak ’til a good 2/3 of the way through, FYI. Also, you can check out more from the Third Shift Junkies here: http://thirdshiftjunkies.mypodcast.com/)
Second order of business (which I mentioned earlier): I’m passing on the baton of this blog. Yep.
See, this MNIJ blog was really only supposed to be a summer-long gig, but our marketing director Jess asked if I’d write during the year, albeit less often. I said sure – I mean, it’s just a post here and there, right? One little blog – no big deal.
But then I get to school and am reminded within the first week of how many “no big deals” I’ve got on my plate - this poor little blog was getting neglected. Plus, there’s a new team of students that are taking on marketing for MNIJ for the fall semester – it really makes more sense for someone on the fall team to take this on.
My friend Sarah Sampson will be taking over the main responsibilities of this blog. I may have a post once in a blue moon, but this will no longer be mainly my creature. Sarah’s gonna do great – level head on her shoulders and a good sense of humor to be the cherry on top of keeping you updated on the film.
So, I’m not saying goodbye because 1) I don’t like goodbyes and 2) I’ll probably still be helpin’ out with things here and there and have the occasional post. On that note, thanks for reading whether you loved or hated my writing – praise and criticism have equal value – and keep on reading now that Sarah’s on board. She’ll deliver the goods - which include a new video in her inaugural post on Monday.
Have a good day.
love,

I haven’t been able to say anything about post-production yet, and that needs to be remedied.
MNIJ is currently in the process of being edited by Ball State alum Jess Carfield. After graduating from BSU, Jess moved to the U.K. and earned his MFA at the London Film School, and now lives and works in Los Angeles as a freelance photographer and editor. He has worked with bands such as Motley Crue, Slipknot, and The Smashing Pumpkins, and recently made his directorial debut on FUSE TV for a documentary he made about Slipknot.
Jess is working toward a rough assembly of the scenes, and out of about 100 he’s in the 60s. We asked him a couple questions about editing up to this point…
What is your overall impression of the footage so far?
My overall impression is that the footage looks amazing and the performances are outstanding.
How does this project compare with others you’ve worked on ?
It is tough to compare a project like this to others I have worked on. I will say that I can see a team effort in the footage and am very impressed at how well the crew worked together.
Jess also had this to say:
“Be patient. That’s the best advice I can give everyone that wants to see this wonderful film.”
There’s the scoop. Keep checkin’ in for more goodies.

Hey there, readers! There’s no longer the hustle and bustle of filming happening, but we haven’t forgotten about you.
As I said before, there is a LOT of material that was collected during filming that couldn’t be immediately released. There are a ton of fantastic pictures from set that have been waiting in the wings to see the light of day - such as these, taken during scenes with Catherine Hicks, who plays Dana Holderman.

Catherine Hicks as Dana Holderman speaking to the potential new Daemtech sales representatives, including Jerry, played by Doug Jones, second on her right.

Hicks as Dana Holderman talking with Doug Jones, playing Jerry.
Hicks was in Muncie for one evening to film her scenes as Dana, an HR rep for a company with which Jerry interviews for a sales position. The shoot, which lasted until around 3 AM, was understandably time-crunched, but marketing managed to steal Hicks from the crew for a few minutes to talk with her about her role. Take a look!
Also, MNIJ would like to thank everyone who came out for the garage sale on Saturday - no figures yet on how much was raised, but when it comes to this production, every dollar can make a huge difference. Thanks!
That’s all for now, y’all - we’re deep into post-production, but otherwise can’t give anymore details. I’ll be back to spill when I can. Have a good day!

So, filming for My Name Is Jerry wrapped yesterday around 9 pm. It’s been an incredible experience for everyone, I think, that was a part of making the film, but this is not so much of an end as a beginning of a next step.
Today, for example, the marketing team is stealing Dougie for just about the whole day for a photo shoot, short promotional film, and concluding interview. Now that we’ve got the raw material for a film, we’ve gotta keep on telling people about it. And this blog isn’t over either. I realize the past several days there haven’t been the picture-filled updates on a daily basis - and I have to take it as a good thing that there are enough people reading to get onto me about it, which I completely understand - but with the length of shoots, it was becoming unrealistic to sort/edit photos and video and keep the same posting schedule along with still sleeping and showering. Good news is, we do have a lot of material from filming that will be released as it becomes available - interviews galore, for example.
Another announcement: this Saturday, August 9, from 10AM - 2PM, there will be a garage sale of sorts to sell props’n’such used in the film - quirky hipster decorations from Jordan’s house, Milton Hill mugs, and other good stuff at the Taste of Texas in downtown Muncie, at 221 S. Walnut Street. (I wish I could be there to buy a bubblegum pink stereo from Jordan’s house. I’d fight you for that thing if I were still in Muncie by this weekend.)
So, even though it’s the end of filming, it’s by no means the end of My Name Is Jerry - really, it’s just beginning. Check in every couple weeks or so, and there should be updates concerning various aspects of the progress of the film. This has just gotten started.
love

The second part of the interview with the guys of Satan’s TP, which was started by me asking a simple, innocent, unassuming question - “Are you a cat person or a dog person?”
Have a good one.
